Can you believe we have six more weeks of winter??? I can! I think if you live in Maine you just know there will be six more weeks of winter whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not!
Last week we had read some Groundhog Day
books and
I had planned to do my
"Will he see his shadow or not" survey but we had a crazy Friday and it didn't happen. Does that ever happen to you???
I was going to use my new yes and no badges for our class graph and then they would record the data on their individual graph.
I wasn't really sure how many of them would remember or know if the groundhog saw his shadow but, sure enough, this morning my kiddos arrived excitedly talking about whether the groundhog had seen his shadow and what it would mean. They were so cute talking about how we would have six more weeks of winter that I decided to change our schedule and do our groundhog follow up right then.
First, we answered the question of whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow. I thought they did a great job of filling in the background. I got a chuckle out of the fact that they all put grass in their picture even though there is only snow on the ground here. Maybe some wishful thinking?
Then we made some pretty cute groundhog puppets! They glued them to a tongue depressor and then we folded a paper plate in half. I cut a slit into each plate for the puppet to fit into. They decorated the plate to look like the groundhogs home. Yes, you guessed it. More grass! lol The puppets were quite a hit and they couldn't wait to take them home!
